  • Msconfig was not included with Windows 2000, Windows, or NT. You have two options.

The first option is to simply copy Msconfig.exe from one of the other computers and install it on the Internet under Windows 2000. This may seem easier to you than just wading through the registry and searching from top to bottom in the startup lists. … If you are using WinXP Msconfig.exe you should have no problems. Copy the file to the winnt / system32 folder. Using Windows 98 / Me versions will probably work the same, but you will get error messages that you can ignore.

To make changes, you can use many of the available utilities to tweak the boot parameters. Try Mike’s Startuplin Control Panel, which is available everywhere at http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml. The system launch control panel is open and offers you a large number of options to customize the launch of the program. Is it compatible with all versions of Windows from Windows 95?

Windows 2000 does not have MSCONFIG from the company shipped with Windows 98.

You can use the optionMSCONFIG in Windows XP.

    • Copy msconfig.exe from c: windows system to c: winnt system32 on Windows 2000.

Download the Windows 98-specific msconfig.exe from the file on the site if you don’t already have it.

    • Click | Start | Run and | Enter msconfig in the text box and click OK to run MSCONFIG.
    • Ignore the error messages you receive if you cannot find the following.
      • config.sys
      • autoexec.bat
      • win.ini
      • system.ini
    • Click the itc tab.
    • Activate or deactivate the checkboxes for programs that you are likely to launch or not offer.

    Note.

The msconfig file is a simple stand-alone program, so it will work on any computer you have. You just need to find the correct version, win98 variant works under win98 NT and almost four and some earlier versions, because win2000 XP version works with XP and later versions from 2000

Depending on your 2000 installation, you also have corresponding functions in msconfig via the path to the ….. program commands.,. accessories,. Withsystem. tools, ….

The error shown when using the Win98 variant on later operating systems is that the Win98 version of msconfig usually allows you to view / edit the contents of a file while it is being used by the operating program. But Win2000 and XP DO NOT use boot formats like config.sys and autoexec. Therefore, they cannot be viewed / changed. When using a version of mscongif between Win98 and NT4, it tries to open those files but fails with an error. XP transcript doesn’t even try to open these files as it might be using them in 2000 or XP

Config.sys and autoexec.bat can be used by professionals in situations where old win95 / 98 programs run in a special mode. In this case, there is a configuration document a.sys that is applicable only to the reason the program is open, and only if the program is open in expert status. In this case, config.sys can often be used, but this time Windows doesn’t see it, only this choice, so msconfig also doesn’t see which one.

Windows 95 and Windows 2000 are not included in the MSCONFIG software. Anyway,Windows 98 version works fine with msconfig from Windows 95 andWindows XP version is disabled. Msconfig works fine on Windows 2000.For the convenience of people using these systems, I have grouped articles with them.Installers for your configuration pleasure.Walk through people and let me understand how they work for you:

ONLY MSCONFIG in Windows 95 (Registered in Windows 98) (364KB)

MSCONFIG ONLY for Windows 2000 (Legacy Windows XP) (350KB)

Windows 95, Windows ME, Windows and XP currently have MSCONFIG.
Users of these systems do NOT need to download it.

I was recently contacted by a wonderful person named Sylvain Prevost who sent me a copy of his startup registry database. It is primarily intended for Compaq owners, but the information is also interesting to everyone. It’s MUCH more comprehensive than mine, almost certainly ever will be, so I decided to fully comment on it throughout my entire website.Thank you, Sylvain!
